On November 3, 2025, an endangered loggerhead sea turtle named Swim Shady was released into the Atlantic Ocean off Juno Beach, Florida, nearly three months after being struck by a boat.
The 268-pound adult female, found stranded with buoyancy issues, vision loss, anemia, and carrying eggs, was rescued near Port St. Lucie and treated at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center, where she underwent surgery and received antibiotics and supportive care.
Her recovery was sponsored by a travel gear company that named her through a public contest.
The release, attended by community members and families, highlighted ongoing conservation efforts amid rising threats from boat strikes during peak mating season.
