The UK’s first dedicated MND care center opened in Leeds, honoring rugby star Rob Burrow’s legacy.
The Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease has opened at Seacroft Hospital in Leeds, becoming the UK’s first purpose-built facility dedicated to MND care, research, education, and holistic support.
The centre, established less than 18 months after former rugby player Rob Burrow’s death at 41, was funded by a £6.8 million campaign with over 17,000 donors and support from his former teammate Kevin Sinfield.
Designed with input from patients, families, and healthcare professionals, it reflects Burrow’s vision of compassionate, person-centered care.
Dr. Agam Jung, Burrow’s consultant and the centre’s director, emphasized treating individuals with dignity, continuing Burrow’s legacy.
The MND Association called the facility a transformative advancement for patients and families in West Yorkshire.
