The Supreme Court will consider AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi's request to extend the deadline for registering Waqf properties on the UMEED portal.
The Supreme Court will hear a plea by AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi for an extension of the deadline to register Waqf properties on the government’s UMEED portal, with only one month left in the six-month window.
The portal, launched June 6, requires digital, geo-tagged records of all Waqf properties.
The court had previously stayed parts of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, including a provision limiting Waqf creation to those practicing Islam for five years, but upheld the law’s overall constitutionality.
It also dismissed concerns that removing 'Waqf by user'—recognizing properties by long-term use—would lead to government seizure, calling the move non-arbitrary.
A hearing date has not yet been set.
