Plans to convert the Grade II-listed former Ysgol Efyrnwy Primary School in Abertridwr, Powys, into four homes—including one affordable unit—and build additional housing on the site have drawn objections from Powys councillors and the Llanwddyn Community Council.
The 1950s-era school, designed by Herbert Carr and listed by Cadw in 2009 after closing due to declining enrollment, faces concerns over insufficient parking and potential harm to its historic character and setting.
While the developer and a Heritage Impact Assessment claim the changes won’t diminish the building’s significance, the council’s built heritage officer says submitted documents lack sufficient detail on proposed physical alterations.
A decision is expected by November 26.
