New Zealand police seized 31 guns and suspended six licenses after uncovering illegal hunting and firearm supply network.
A New Zealand police operation in North Canterbury has resulted in 31 firearms being seized and six firearm licences suspended following an investigation into illegal hunting.
The probe, prompted by gunfire near a home in Cheviot in April, uncovered a network where licensed holders allegedly supplied weapons to unlicensed individuals, with two men pleading guilty to unlawful possession and discharging a firearm near a dwelling.
Four of the five firearms found were registered to others, and authorities used the Firearms Registry to trace ownership after false information was provided.
Six people now face multiple charges, including supplying firearms and obstructing justice.
The public is urged to report concerns through police or Crime Stoppers.
Court dates are set for November and December.
