Lake Bistineau will begin refilling on Nov. 17, 2025, after a drawdown to control invasive plants and improve fishing.
Lake Bistineau in Northwest Louisiana will begin refilling around November 17, 2025, after a two-and-a-half-month drawdown that started August 11.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is closing the drawdown gates to manage invasive giant salvinia and improve the fishery.
The lake is expected to return to full pool by spring, supporting recreation and waterfowl season.
The cycle mimics natural overflow and supports ecosystem health.
Property owners with docks, ramps, or duck blinds are urged to prepare for rising water.
