India approves ₹7,500 crore for 1,040 MW hybrid renewable project in Andhra Pradesh, the largest REC sanction to a private renewable project.
The Rural Electrification Corporation has approved ₹7,500 crore in funding for a 1,040 MW hybrid renewable energy project in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, developed by Evren, a joint venture between Brookfield and Axis Energy.
The project, part of Brookfield’s 8,000 MW clean energy plan in the state, combines wind, solar, and battery storage to deliver reliable power and marks the largest REC sanction to a private renewable project in India.
It is the first in the country to use a firm power purchase agreement with grid connectivity under the FDRE framework.
The funding supports Andhra Pradesh’s goal of becoming a renewable energy hub, boosting grid stability, job creation, and investment in green infrastructure.
