Experian is overhauling its UK credit scoring system starting November 2025, introducing rental payments and other financial behaviors like mobile phone contract payments and mortgage overpayments into score calculations for the first time.
The update aims to provide a more accurate, personalized view of creditworthiness, replacing terms like “poor” and “very poor” and removing red coloring to reduce user distress.
While 42% of users may see score improvements, 44% could drop a band, and 14% remain unchanged, credit eligibility for loans, mortgages, and cards will not be affected.
The new system will roll out automatically to all UK customers by year-end, accessible via free and paid services.
