Denmark opens HySynergy, a major green hydrogen plant using renewables to cut emissions.
Denmark has launched the HySynergy hydrogen plant in Fredericia, one of Europe’s few low-carbon facilities, using solar and wind power to produce about eight tonnes of hydrogen daily.
Initially operating at 20 megawatts with plans to expand to 350 megawatts, the plant supplies a nearby refinery and Germany.
Though green hydrogen is key to decarbonizing heavy industry and transport, production remains costly and slow to scale across Europe, with only a handful of operational plants.
The International Energy Agency warns most announced projects won’t meet 2030 targets, highlighting the need for stronger policy support, including the EU’s RED III directive.
