The UK plans to build the nation’s largest solar farm in Wiltshire, with a public comment period through January 9, 2026.
The UK’s Planning Inspectorate has opened a 10-week public comment period on a proposed 500-megawatt solar farm in Wiltshire, near Malmesbury, with a decision expected in 2026.
The project, led by Lime Down Solar Park Limited, would be the UK’s largest solar farm, spanning four miles and powering about 115,000 homes.
It includes large solar panels, battery storage units up to five storeys high, and a 20-kilometer power cable requiring a 60-meter-wide corridor under the M4 and railway line.
Despite opposition from Wiltshire Council, which calls it one of the most damaging developments in recent memory, the application has advanced to the examination phase.
The public can comment until January 9, 2026, with a report to be sent to Energy Secretary Ed Miliband, who has three months to decide.
The final decision may face legal challenge.
