Qatar awards Samsung C&T $1.5B EPC contract for massive carbon capture project in Ras Laffan, targeting 4.1M tons CO₂ annually.
QatarEnergy has awarded Samsung C&T an EPC contract for a major carbon capture and sequestration project in Ras Laffan Industrial City, set to capture up to 4.1 million tons of CO₂ annually—among the world’s largest such projects.
The initiative supports Qatar’s goal to integrate CCS into all future LNG expansions, aiming to capture over 11 million tons of CO₂ yearly by 2035.
It builds on existing CCS efforts, including a 2019 facility and two ongoing projects for the North Field expansions, reinforcing Qatar’s push for lower-carbon energy production and alignment with national climate targets.
