100 people attended Sarnia’s Walk a Mile to support women and children affected by violence, raising funds and awareness during Domestic Violence Prevention Month.
On November 1, 2025, about 100 people attended the 11th annual Walk a Mile fundraiser at Lambton Mall in Sarnia, organized by the Sarnia-Lambton Women’s Interval Home to support women and children affected by violence.
The event aimed to raise $35,000 and highlighted survivor stories, including Jessica Plain, an Aamjiwnaang First Nation woman who overcame abuse, addiction, and homelessness to become a social service worker at the shelter where she once found refuge.
The organization served 170 individuals and answered over 1,200 crisis calls last year, with leaders emphasizing the urgent need for transitional housing.
Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley and survivors like Monica Shipman called for community support and healing through self-compassion.
Throughout November, the group displayed survivor stories in public spaces to raise awareness during Domestic Violence Prevention Month.
