On Nov. 1, 2025, India launched a ₹650-crore tourism project in Meghalaya’s Sohra to boost sustainable tourism and create 4,600 jobs.
On November 1, 2025, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma launched the Rs 650-crore Integrated Sohra Tourism Circuit under the PM-DevINE scheme, aiming to boost sustainable, community-led tourism in Meghalaya’s Sohra.
The project, funded by the Ministry of DoNER and the central government, includes upgrades to key sites like Nohkalikai Falls, Mawsmai Eco Park, and Wahkaliar Canyon, along with the Rs 115-crore Sohra Experience Centre.
It is expected to generate over 4,600 jobs and increase tourist spending sixfold.
The initiative is part of a broader development push in the Northeast, where central investment has grown to over Rs 6.2 lakh crore under the 10% gross budgetary support policy, including major infrastructure like the Shillong-Silchar Greenfield Expressway and airport expansions.
