An Irish woman living in Jamaica, Orlagh Kilbride, has launched a GoFundMe campaign to aid victims of Hurricane Melissa, a Category 5 storm that killed at least 19 people and left about 30,000 homeless. The storm caused catastrophic damage in southern and northwestern Jamaica, destroying entire towns, eroding beaches, and toppling wooden structures. Though her Kingston home escaped the worst, Kilbride expressed deep concern for communities already recovering from a previous hurricane, calling the back-to-back disasters unprecedented. She is directing all funds to trusted local charities and the Red Cross to provide food, supplies, and rebuilding support.
