Balochistan’s health department faces corruption probe after audit reveals $115K in fake medicine buys, stolen drugs, and overpriced oxygen cylinders.
The Balochistan Public Accounts Committee has uncovered a major corruption scandal in the provincial health department, revealing illegal medicine purchases worth PKR 30.02 million, unaccounted drug losses of PKR 22.83 million, and overpriced oxygen cylinders sold at PKR 40,000—far above the approved rate of PKR 537.
The audit, covering 2017 to 2022, found irregularities including payments to companies not supplying goods, missing inspection reports and stock records, and suspiciously identical handwriting on supplier quotes, suggesting collusion.
Despite an eight-month deadline to respond, the department failed to provide records, prompting PAC Chairman Asghar Ali Tareen to warn officials of removal or criminal charges.
The committee gave the department one week to submit all documents or face referral to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for a full probe.
