Vice Admiral B. Sivakumar assumed leadership of India’s naval materiel, succeeding Vice Admiral Kiran Deshmukh after 39 years of service.
Vice Admiral B. Sivakumar, AVSM, VSM, took over as the 40th Chief of Materiel of the Indian Navy on November 1, 2025, succeeding Vice Admiral Kiran Deshmukh, who retired after over 39 years of service.
A 1987 commissionee and National Defence Academy alumnus, Sivakumar holds advanced degrees in engineering and defence management and has served in key technical and leadership roles across naval headquarters, dockyards, and frontline warships.
He has led major projects including Project Seabird and held top positions in warship production and acquisition.
Recognized with the Vishisht Seva and Ati Vishisht Seva Medals, he brings extensive expertise in naval technology and project management.
His appointment follows a legacy of strong leadership, highlighted by Deshmukh’s role in maintaining high readiness during Operation Sindoor.
