South Carolina State University is enhancing campus security ahead of its first home football game since two shootings on October 4, 2025, that killed 19-year-old Jaliyah Butler and injured another.
Jamarion Jabari Jones, 19, of Abbeville, was arrested and charged with carrying a weapon on campus after being identified in surveillance footage with an assault-style firearm.
Authorities say he admitted to being in the video but confirm no link to the shootings.
Two other teens were also charged with weapons violations on the same day.
SLED has not connected any suspect to the killings, and 11 firearms were found on campus that day.
The university has added patrols, upgraded locks, and installed a safety hub.
A $10,000 reward is offered for tips leading to arrests.
