A new band featuring R.E.M.’s Mike Mills, Steve Gorman, and Darius Rucker released a playful single inspired by Ariana Grande’s music and fragrance line.

A new supergroup, Howl Owl Howl, featuring R.E.M.’s Mike Mills, former Black Crowes drummer Steve Gorman, and Hootie & the Blowfish’s Darius Rucker, has released its debut single, “My Cologne,” inspired by Ariana Grande. Mills said the song was prompted by Grande’s 2018 track “R.E.M.” and her r.e.m. beauty cosmetics line, which included a cassette-shaped fragrance bottle with the band’s name. He described the reference as humorous and responded with playful lyrics, including “I wanna smell like Ariana Grande and I think she wants you to smell like me,” emphasizing the track is meant in good fun. The single is now available digitally, and the band will begin a nine-date tour on November 3 in Indianapolis, ending on November 15 in Athens, Georgia.
