Nearly 28,000 Queensland Year 12 students completed the state’s mandatory English exam on Tuesday, with most choosing Shakespeare’s Macbeth or Othello.
The three-hour test required a 1,000-word essay based on one of eight prescribed texts.
The exam was held on the second day of testing, providing a buffer after severe weather disrupted at least six schools, including four private institutions that canceled Monday’s exams due to power outages.
Students from affected schools were relocated, and all English exams were completed without further delays.
The Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority confirmed widespread use of Shakespearean texts, with Hannah Kent’s Burial Rites also popular.
