A man sentenced to 22 years for abusing four women over 20 years, including three rapes, was condemned for exploiting a victim’s trauma.
Declan Daly, 54, of Kells, County Meath, was sentenced to 22 years in prison, with two years suspended, after pleading guilty to 12 counts of sexual and indecent assault from 1982 to 2002 and being convicted of three rapes in 2022 against a fourth woman.
The court heard he exploited her vulnerability after she disclosed prior abuse by another man, with Judge Patrick McGrath calling the abuse “sinister and savage.” Four victims shared impact statements detailing lasting trauma, shame, and emotional harm.
Daly’s defense cited minor past convictions and a work history, but the court emphasized his sole responsibility.
The second abuser of the final victim had already been jailed for 13 years.
