Dominion delays wind project start due to vessel issues but keeps 2025–2026 timeline.
Dominion Energy has delayed the start of wind turbine installation for its Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project due to required work on its Jones Act-compliant vessel, Charybdis, which arrived in September.
The 472-foot ship, built at a $715 million cost, has 200 unresolved issues, mostly related to electrical systems, with over 120 resolved.
Despite the delay, Dominion expects installation to begin in November 2025 and first power by late Q1 2026.
The project has made significant progress, including full monopile installation and placement of two offshore substations.
Total project costs have risen to $11.2 billion due to tariffs and grid upgrades, but Dominion maintains the overall timeline remains on track.
