A Connecticut woman is charged with kidnapping and assault after allegedly imprisoning her stepson in a closet for over 20 years; he escaped in February, was rescued, and now lives under a new identity.
Kimberly Sullivan, 57, faces multiple charges including kidnapping and assault after allegedly imprisoning her stepson in a storage closet for over 20 years, starting when he was 11.
The victim, now 32, escaped in February by setting fire to the home, where he was found severely malnourished and weighing just 68 pounds.
He was rescued, granted a new identity for protection, and is now living under court-ordered secrecy.
Sullivan, out on a $300,000 bond, has pleaded not guilty and her attorney has requested the victim’s new identity, citing a constitutional right to confront his accuser.
The request has drawn strong opposition from the victim’s biological mother, who called it “appalling,” and the case remains under investigation by the Waterbury Police Department.
