Archaeologists found a hidden Iron Age hillfort in Scotland, dating from 500 BC to 1 AD, during a road project.
Archaeologists have discovered a previously unknown Iron Age hillfort at Broxy Kennels near Perth, Scotland, revealed through aerial photography and excavated during the Cross Tay Link Road project.
The site, occupied from around 500 BC to the first century AD, features a 9-meter-long souterrain, roundhouse remains, and evidence of iron working.
Though its exact purpose remains unclear, the hillfort’s strategic location at a bend in the River Tay suggests significance in the pre-Roman landscape.
The site was likely abandoned around the first century AD, possibly due to Roman influence, though the cause is uncertain.
Findings are being analyzed by experts from National Museums Scotland and universities in Glasgow and Stirling, with a public lecture scheduled for November 1, 2025.
