Anduril's AI drone, the YFQ-44A, successfully flew semi-autonomously, advancing the Air Force’s plan to deploy over 1,000 such aircraft within five years.
Anduril’s YFQ-44A collaborative combat aircraft completed its first semi-autonomous flight on October 31, 2025, marking a key milestone in the U.S. Air Force’s effort to develop a fleet of AI-driven drones.
The flight, conducted without remote piloting, follows General Atomics’ earlier test of the YFQ-42A and is part of a competitive program to field over 1,000 CCAs within five years.
Developed in just 556 days, the YFQ-44A features a production-ready design and will be manufactured at a new facility in Ohio starting in 2026.
The Air Force plans to select a production model later this fiscal year, aiming to enhance manned fighter missions through autonomous, networked air combat systems.
