WhatsApp now lets users protect cloud backups with biometrics or device locks, boosting privacy and simplifying recovery.
WhatsApp has begun rolling out passkey-encrypted backups, allowing users to secure cloud-stored chats using biometrics like fingerprints or face recognition, or their device’s screen lock, instead of complex passwords or 64-digit keys.
The feature, now available on iOS and Android, extends end-to-end encryption to backups, enhancing privacy and simplifying recovery.
It is being rolled out gradually, with users able to enable it in Settings > Chats > Chat Backup.
The update aligns with industry trends toward passwordless authentication and strengthens security without compromising usability.
