United Way Perth-Huron funds $10K to extend warming centre hours in Stratford, helping homeless individuals during winter.
United Way Perth-Huron is providing $10,000 to help extend hours at the Stratford Connection Centre, a warming centre for people experiencing homelessness, from December to April.
The centre will operate from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily, adding about $232,000 to its budget.
Most of the cost is covered by city funds from an HST audit, with $40,000 still being raised through the United Way’s Not One More Night campaign.
The expansion will require hiring around eight new staff, including social workers and an overnight security guard.
The initiative supports immediate needs while long-term housing solutions are developed.
