TSMC gets permits to build a $49B Taiwan chip plant using 1.4nm tech, set for 2028 mass production.
TSMC has received three construction permits for its new A14 wafer fab in Taichung, Taiwan, clearing the way for construction to begin by year-end.
The facility will use 1.4-nanometer process technology, promising 15% faster performance or 30% lower power use compared to TSMC’s upcoming 2nm chips.
Projected to start mass production in late 2028, the plant is expected to generate $15.85 billion in annual output and create around 4,500 jobs.
The $49 billion project includes a main fab, utility plant, and office buildings, with site preparations complete and recruitment underway.
