STV news anchor John MacKay, who has served the broadcaster for over 30 years since joining in 1994, will step down in March 2026 to focus on writing and creative projects, including a sequel to his film *The Road Dance* and potential TV adaptations of his novels.
He has anchored STV News at Six since 2009 and co-presented *Scotland Tonight* since its 2011 launch, covering major national events.
MacKay, a published author of six books, will remain involved with STV in a non-anchoring role.
