Scammers impersonate officials to steal data ahead of Taiwan’s NT$10,000 cash handout; only official website has real info.
Meta and Taiwan’s MyGoPen are warning of phishing scams ahead of a NT$10,000 cash handout, urging people to avoid suspicious links and messages.
Scammers are impersonating official sources via fake texts and emails, falsely claiming users must register before November 5 to claim funds, and asking for personal or financial details.
The government confirms it will not use text or email for announcements and will never request bank information.
The handout, aimed at easing inflation’s impact, will be available to citizens and eligible foreign residents starting November 5 via online registration, with funds expected in accounts within a week.
Alternative collection methods include ATMs from November 17 and post offices from November 24.
Official details are only on the government’s website.
