Portugal, Spain, and the EU agree to build a high-speed rail from Lisbon to Madrid, cutting travel to 3 hours by 2034.
Portugal, Spain, and the European Commission have agreed to advance a high-speed rail link between Lisbon and Madrid, targeting a five-hour travel time by 2030 and a full high-speed service reducing travel to about three hours by 2034.
The project includes new tracks, a Tagus River bridge, and upgrades to existing lines, supported by nearly €1 billion in EU funding.
It aims to replace over 40 daily flights, improve cross-border connectivity, and support carbon neutrality goals.
