flag Portland expands Leaf Day to 82 zones, with new pickup schedules and prep rules to prevent flooding.

Portland’s Leaf Day begins November 1, 2025, with a major expansion to 82 zones—up from 53—across all four City Council districts, thanks to new city funding. The service, running six days a week through mid-January with holiday breaks, aims to prevent street flooding by removing leaves with specialized sweepers. Nearly 100,000 residents received brochures, including about 30,000 newly added to the program. Residents are urged to rake leaves to the street the day before pickup, keep piles at least a foot from the curb, avoid branches and grass clippings, and remove vehicles—especially in Northwest Portland, Goose Hollow, and Sullivan’s Gulch, where towing may occur. The PBOT website, interactive map, and a new video offer zone lookup and preparation tips, with schedule updates posted online and via email or text if weather affects service.
