Nova Scotia creates 25-member committee to fight gender-based violence after declaring it an epidemic.
Nova Scotia has formed a 25-member advisory committee to combat gender-based violence, following legislation declaring intimate partner violence an epidemic.
Co-chaired by Minister Leah Martin and Justice Minister Scott Armstrong, the group includes government representatives and will be supported by an independent facilitator.
Its role is to develop prevention strategies, support victims, and implement recommendations from a 2023 public inquiry into the 2020 mass shooting that killed 22 people and exposed systemic failures.
Over 260 applicants vied for membership, and the committee’s first meeting is set for late October 2025.
