The Nigerian House of Representatives has formed an ad-hoc committee to investigate complaints about excessive bank charges and unauthorized tax deductions, particularly affecting civil servants. The committee, led by Chairman Hon. Kelechi Nwogu, will examine salary deductions, potential non-remittance of collected funds, and the application of VAT on bank fees. It aims to uncover irregularities, recommend reforms, and protect citizens’ financial rights, with a pledge to act impartially. Speaker Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, represented by Chief Whip Hon. Usman Kumo, affirmed the 10th National Assembly’s commitment to addressing public concerns over unfair financial practices in both government and banking sectors.
