Navy officer Antonio Alcantar, 38, has pleaded not guilty to murder and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated in the death of La Mesa police officer Lauren Craven, 25, who was struck on Interstate 8 on October 20, 2025.
Prosecutors say Alcantar, with a blood alcohol level of .16, failed to stop after hitting Craven and another person, despite video evidence showing no attempt to slow or yield.
Craven was assisting victims from a prior crash when she was killed.
Alcantar, who had no prior criminal record, was taken into custody after his $110,000 bail was revoked and replaced with $1 million.
He faces life imprisonment if convicted and is scheduled to return to court on December 3.
