Mumbai Customs seized endangered gibbons and drugs in airport raids, arresting multiple suspects.
Mumbai Customs intercepted two smuggling operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on October 29–30, seizing two endangered silvery gibbons—one alive, one dead—hidden in a passenger’s bag from Bangkok, and 7.97 kg of hydroponic marijuana valued at ₹7.97 crore.
The passengers were arrested under the Customs Act, Wildlife Protection Act, and NDPS Act.
Over four days, authorities also seized 12.418 kg of hydroponic weed, electronic goods worth over ₹56 lakh, and made nine arrests.
Operations were intelligence-led, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat illegal wildlife trafficking and drug smuggling.
