Maharashtra to waive farm loans by June 2026, following a report and protests.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced a farm loan waiver to be implemented by June 30, 2026, following a committee report expected by April 2026.
The nine-member panel, led by Pravin Pardeshi of MITRA, will establish eligibility criteria and recommend short- and long-term solutions to address farmer debt.
The government has already disbursed ₹8,500 crore in relief, with more funds to follow, and aims to ensure 90% of affected farmers receive aid within 15 days.
The decision fulfills an election promise and comes after protests and judicial scrutiny, though no immediate waiver is planned.
