India set a record with over 6 GW of new wind power capacity in 2025, boosting domestic manufacturing and renewable energy goals.
India’s Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, announced record wind energy installations in 2025, projecting over 6 GW of new capacity and aiming to raise domestic content in wind projects to 85% from 64%.
Speaking at Windergy India 2025 in Chennai, he emphasized self-reliance amid global uncertainties, citing strong policy support, a growing manufacturing base with over 2,500 MSMEs, and India’s rising role in the global wind supply chain.
The country, already among the top five producers of wind components, aims to capture 10% of the global market by 2030 and 20% by 2040.
Wind power contributed 5% to national electricity output in FY 2024–25, with 54 GW installed and 30 GW under development, bringing India closer to its 85 GW 2030 target and broader 500 GW renewable goal.
