Ford invests $370M in India to restart high-end engine production for export by 2029.
Ford is investing $370 million (₹3,250 crore) in Tamil Nadu to revive its Maraimalai Nagar plant near Chennai, restarting production of high-end engines for export starting in 2029 with an annual capacity of 235,000 units.
The project, backed by a memorandum of understanding with the Tamil Nadu government, marks Ford’s return to India after exiting the local vehicle market in 2021 due to losses.
The engines will not be sold in the U.S., and specific export destinations remain undisclosed.
The move reflects renewed confidence in India as a global manufacturing hub despite U.S.-India trade tensions, including a 50% tariff on Indian imports.
The investment is expected to create over 600 direct jobs and strengthen India’s role in Ford’s global supply chain.
