Brad L. Mortensen, a 1995 Utah State University alumnus and current president of Weber State University, has been unanimously selected as USU’s 18th president, effective November 10, 2025. A first-generation college graduate, Mortensen led Weber State since 2019, launching accelerated degrees, expanding dual enrollment, and securing nearly $400 million in funding. He returns to his alma mater amid challenges including a $12.6 million state-mandated budget cut and leadership instability following the resignation of former president Elizabeth Cantwell. The Utah Board of Higher Education confirmed his appointment after a previously undisclosed search process, praising his student-centered leadership and deep understanding of Utah’s higher education landscape.
