Bakersfield Police Detective Marc Lugo, 35, appeared in federal court on October 30, 2025, pleading not guilty to charges of sexual exploitation of a minor and receiving/distributing child pornography.
Arrested in May, he is accused of contacting a 15-year-old girl from South Carolina via Instagram, encouraging her to send explicit images.
Lugo, a 13-year veteran, is on paid administrative leave and remains in custody pending a detention hearing on November 4.
A preliminary hearing is set for November 13.
The case, being prosecuted federally, carries a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison.
