Emma Sears scored a hat trick and Catarina Macario added two goals as the U.S. women’s national team defeated New Zealand 6-0 in a friendly at CPKC Stadium in Kansas City, the world’s first purpose-built women’s soccer stadium.
The win marked the most goals scored by the U.S. under head coach Emma Hayes, with Sears’ three goals coming in the 8th, 55th, and 84th minutes, all assisted by Michelle Cooper.
Macario scored in the 34th and 66th minutes, reaching four career two-goal games.
Rose Lavelle added a long-range goal before halftime.
Defender Kennedy Wesley made her debut, becoming the 25th player to earn a cap under Hayes, with the starting backline having just 11 combined appearances.
