Three climate protesters face charges for spraying powder at Stonehenge, sparking debate over protest rights and public nuisance.
Rajan Naidu, 74, Niamh Lynch, 23, and Luke Watson, 36, are on trial at Salisbury Crown Court, accused of spraying orange powder made from cornflour, talc, and dye at Stonehenge during a June 2024 climate protest.
Prosecutors claim the act caused public nuisance and £620 in cleanup costs, while the defendants deny the charges, calling their protest peaceful and non-damaging.
Judge Paul Dugdale instructed the jury to base its verdict solely on evidence, emphasizing that freedom of expression and peaceful protest are protected under the European Convention on Human Rights.
He stressed that any conviction must be proportionate and not unduly restrict protest rights.
