Queensland to launch child sex offender register, Daniel's Law, on Oct. 30, 2025, despite human rights concerns.
Queensland is set to pass Daniel's Law, creating a public child sex offender register named after murdered teen Daniel Morcombe.
The law, expected to pass on October 30, 2025, will allow parents and residents to access photos and details of non-compliant offenders through a government website, with three tiers of information and tools to check individuals with unsupervised child contact.
It introduces new crimes with up to 10-year prison sentences to deter misuse and vigilante actions.
While backed by victims’ advocates and government leaders as a critical child safety step, concerns remain over privacy, potential stigma, and the law’s effectiveness, especially since most offenders are known to victims.
The register will operate despite a government override of the state’s Human Rights Act.
