Kentucky confirms first CWD case in western region in a deer from Pulaski County.
Kentucky has confirmed its second wild case of Chronic Wasting Disease in a 2.5-year-old male white-tailed deer harvested in Pulaski County during the current hunting season.
The diagnosis, confirmed by two lab tests, marks the first detection in the state’s western region.
The disease, caused by prions, is always fatal to deer and has no cure.
While no human cases have been linked to CWD, officials urge hunters to test harvested deer and follow safe handling guidelines.
The state is activating its CWD Response Plan, including a public meeting in November and a commission update in December.
Over 70,000 deer and elk have been tested since 2002.
