An Irish man paralyzed by a stroke sues over a missed artery blockage diagnosis in a brain scan.
A 39-year-old Irish man, Christopher O’Driscoll, who is paralyzed from the neck down with severe locked-in syndrome after a January 2023 stroke, has filed a High Court lawsuit over a brain scan at University Hospital Kerry.
He claims a CT angiogram failed to detect a major artery blockage, missing a chance for life-altering thrombolysis treatment.
He is suing Global Diagnostics (Ireland) Ltd, which ran the hospital’s radiology services, and the Health Service Executive (HSE), alleging negligence.
Both defendants deny the claims, arguing treatment would not have changed the outcome.
The case has been adjourned for mediation, with a potential trial set for six weeks if no resolution is reached.
