During Ireland's October bank holiday weekend, Gardaí conducted a major road safety operation resulting in over 150 arrests for driving under the influence, more than 3,000 speeding violations—including drivers clocked at 174km/h in a 100km/h zone—and 300 fines for mobile phone use.
The effort also led to 87 vehicle seizures from unaccompanied learner drivers, 345 impoundments for lack of tax or insurance, and over 140 fixed charge notices for learner drivers and seatbelt violations.
One fatality and eight serious injuries occurred in seven serious collisions.
