Illinois Democrat Kat Abughazaleh indicted on federal felony for allegedly blocking ICE vehicle during protest.
Progressive Illinois House candidate Kat Abughazaleh has been indicted on federal felony charges for allegedly blocking an ICE officer’s vehicle during a September 26 protest at a detention center in Broadview, Illinois.
The indictment, filed October 23 and unsealed October 29, 2025, accuses her and five others of conspiring to obstruct federal law enforcement, including actions like banging on the vehicle, pushing against it, and scratching the word “PIG” on its surface.
Abughazaleh, who is running to succeed retiring Rep. Janice Schakowsky in the 9th District, denies the charges, calling the prosecution a political attack on First Amendment rights.
She has shared videos of the protest, claiming an ICE agent attempted to run over demonstrators.
Her initial court appearance is scheduled for November 5.
