Equinix bought a £3.9B UK site to build Europe’s largest data campus, boosting AI and cloud infrastructure with green tech and thousands of jobs.
Equinix has acquired an 85-acre site in South Mimms, Hertfordshire, for £3.9 billion to develop one of Europe’s largest data centre campuses, now named the Hertfordshire Campus.
The project, approved in January 2025, will deliver over two million square feet of space, create 2,500 construction jobs, and provide 200+ permanent roles, with operations targeted for 2030.
It will feature green technologies, including dry cooling and heat export, and aim for a 10% biodiversity net gain.
The development supports growing demand for AI and cloud services and marks a major investment in the UK’s digital infrastructure.
