BNP's Tarique Rahman urges nationwide childcare in institutions to boost women's employment and GDP.
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has called for a nationwide childcare initiative in Bangladesh, urging the establishment of daycare centers in public universities, government offices, and large private workplaces.
In a October 30, 2025, Facebook post, he cited a 2024 BBS survey showing only 43% of women participate in the labor force versus 80% of men, calling the gap a barrier to economic growth.
The plan includes mandatory childcare in major institutions, tax incentives for employers, and caregiver training under the Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs.
Rahman argued the reforms could boost women’s employment, raise incomes, and add up to 1% to GDP, noting studies showing childcare improves retention and reduces absenteeism in sectors like garments.
