UK reviewing China’s bid to build embassy near Tower of London, with decision by Dec. 10.
The UK government is reviewing China’s application to build a new embassy near the Tower of London, with a final decision due by December 10.
Housing Secretary Steve Reed said national security and other factors will be assessed, following a parliamentary committee’s warning that the site’s proximity to critical infrastructure could pose risks of espionage and sabotage.
The original 2022 application was rejected by Tower Hamlets Council, but China resubmitted it after Keir Starmer’s election victory, prompting the government to take the decision nationally.
Reed declined to comment on the case specifics, confirming the decision will include a full explanation.
